Bengaluru, 10 July

Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda and Greater Bengaluru Authority Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao directed officials to deploy additional manpower and complete the Wind Tunnel Underpass within three months.

The Rs 19.5 crore project, near the UR Rao Satellite Centre on Old Airport Road, has been delayed by nearly three years, with traffic restrictions coming into effect in May.

However, Gowda noted that 75 per cent of the work for the 300m, four-lane underpass has been completed, including shifting of pipes and cables and construction of RCC retaining walls.

Rao said that construction is being carried out in a manner that minimises inconvenience to commuters. He added that temporary roads will be constructed at the earliest on land belonging to the Defence establishment, ISRO, National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) and certain private properties on both sides of the junction to facilitate uninterrupted traffic movement during the construction period.

The next phase will involve installation of the pre-fabricated box structures at the centre of the underpass.
